Relationship Counseling

Challenges are a normal part of any relationship. Getting help at difficult times can make the difference between a relationship mired in conflict, and one filled with joy, understanding, and mutual support. In their highest form, relationships can be used as a profound tool for healing and personal transformation. Too often, however, relationships are mired in pain due to conflicts and unconscious patterns of relating. Relationships inevitably bring us up against our most painful unresolved emotional conflicts from the past. Recognizing the potential of these conflicts to propel you to new levels of self-awareness, healing, intimacy, and transformation is the key to achieving a successful relationship.

A holistic approach...
The journey from conflict to intimacy requires relationship skills, personal dedication to the process, and a willingness to look into one's self for the source of our own pain and dysfunctional ways of relating. Transformational relationship counseling supports this process by teaching communication skills, building empathy between partners, and through awareness-building experiential exercises. With this support, wounds from the past are released, understanding of your partner and yourself is increased, and the relationship you are hoping for becomes acheivable.

Tools for the journey...
My goal is to provide you with tools that you can use now, and long after the difficult phase has passed. I incorporate a variety of methods, depending on your particular needs:
1. An experiential approach in which the underlying patterns can be explored through active processes and experiments.
2. A meditative, body-centered process to learn about and transform the unconscious patterns that create conflict and reactivity (Hakomi therapy).
3. EMDR to work through painful experiences from the past which affect the present, including childhood wounding, pain from past relationships, and current repeating conflicts.
4. Teaching you your personality types (Enneagram) and how they interact with each other to aid in understanding yourself, your partner, and the relationship dynamics.
5. Teaching you tools such as Nonviolent Communication, Imago Intentional Dialogue, and PAIRS work to build empathy, understanding and skillful communication.
6. Helping you to see the spiritual purpose and growth opportunity in your relationship difficulties.

With this approach, old wounds are healed, awareness of self and partner is enhanced, and communication becomes more effective. I am eager to guide you on this journey with empathy, insight, and a wealth of experience in working with couples.
